Mass Effect 2

InMyBox_ME2This is right now (for me) the best game there is. It is immersive, epical and such an awesome RPG. A certified addiction.

Using iGoogle for Facebook, Twitter, G-Mail and Yahoo!Mail

iGoogle isn’t really something that most people use for their everyday computing (social networks and mail). Most people don’t even know what it is or notice it at all. Well, here’s a a quick tip for those people..

Wi-tribe Wireless Internet Review

Overall: Good first 2 weeks! Then it just died out.

witribe01 First of all, like my previous Sun broadband Review this is based solely on my experience. I live in Makati (near Market-Market Mall) on an elevated area. I use Windows 7 and Chrome almost exclusively. Your mileage will definitely vary.

If you don’t know what Wi-tribe is please check-out their site and google it as well, since this technology is also implemented elsewhere other than the Philippines. However, here is a brief intro:

Wi-Tribe (pronounced as why – tribe) Philippines uses 4G technology as opposed to the 3G technology that other companies(Globe, Smart, Sun) in the country is providing  for the targeted market of mobile broadband. It’s supposed to be the next, better technology, hence 4G (for 4th generation). Honestly though, there are some articles that say Wi-Tribe doesn’t actually using the ‘real’ 4G technology but somewhere between 3G and 4G. Google it for the details.

Sun Broadband (Wireless) Review

Overall: Amazing first week! The rest was dreadful.

How to Share your 3G USB Internet with Windows 7 thru Wi-fi without a Router

Tags: 3G USB, Connectify, Windows 7, Wi-Fi, Router, Share Internet, 3G Modem

I have spent two sleepless nights just trying to connect my Wii to the internet using my 3G/HSDPA USB modem. I didn’t want to spend on a 3G router since i wasn’t sure if i’m going to stay at the service. I tried using ‘ad hoc’ and using an actual wi-fi router with a ton of trials and errors (all results were errors).

And, after some hair-pulling frustration, i found this nifty little tool that practically solved my problem almost instantly.

Another Shortcut menu from the Toolbar

The standard Windows Start Menu has never been enough for me, even with the enhancements in Vista (haven’t tried Windows 7 yet). I’ve always wanted another sort of “Start Menu”. The closest way i could do this, without installing anything new was with the use of toolbars.

Check out the following sample of this “sort of Start Menu”

Create a folder or file with a blank name

I have learned this sort of Windows trick many years ago and have one particular use for it (naming a toolbar).

The folder would look like this..

blankfolder01

The folder above looks like it has no name, but it actually does (of course). The name is a special character that looks like a space (remember that you can’t use just a space as the folder name).

DVD with Side A – Side B (ala cassette)

When I was in college, one of the my professors of a non-major subject (more appropriately called Gen. Ed. subjects) asked us a question that really made the whole class laugh our heads off. We were IT students, but “she” had little idea with computers, what with her subject being about our National Hero and her being the typical traditional and sort of ‘terror’ professor.

She asked if a CD had side A and side B, ala cassette tape.

SOP 1: Avoid Changing File Access from Your Program

If you’re program reads/writes to a file or folder that has restrictions (i.e. read-only, or limited user access) and you’re deciding whether to change these access settings – I'd say don’t bother.

C# Tidbits: Signed, sealed, delivered classes

The “sealed” keyword for classes was new to me (and certainly not part of C++). So, the first time i encountered it (from a year ago) it got me interested. There are a lot of more extensive (and official) discussions but here is my uber-brief summary:

C++ Tidbits: Ampersands (&) in a Parameter of a Function

Most of the time I see these function signatures:

       int DoSomeComputation (int *x);

But I also encounter these:

int DoSomeComputation (int &x);   //ampersand instead of an asterisk

So, what are they for/ what’s the difference?

Introducing.. another tech blog

Something to blog about..
It took me quite a long while just to realize that if ever I'd be blogging about anything, it would almost always be about my 'tech' life. Since, my life practically revolves around computers and systems development - most of what i do and say would be about them. It feels stupid now, that i ever had any confusion as to what "purpose-driven blog" i could come up with now that this is clear. Catching the obvious isn't one of my best attributes, i guess.

C# Tidbits : Coming from C++, the little things i noticed

[a brief comparison between C++, Java, VB and C# (Dot Net)]

Since I'm used to c++ (Borland BCB), java, even VB.. these are some things that i just found interesting in c# (only those simple/basic differences that i notice from time to time while developing in C#)..

Windows 7

win7box Finally, a Windows System that i'm really loving. It sleeker and more efficient than any other (non-enterprise) Windows version.
