The headset that came with your iPhone 4 isn’t just for listening or changing the volume, it’s got a very simple set of controls but works intuitively with iPhone operations. Since there are still a lot who may not know the purpose of the middle button (the depressed gray area in between the + and – symbols (of the volume), I’ve decided to post this.
Here’s a quick reference for the headset controls:
A. Music Controls
Play / Pause | Press the middle-button (depress gray area) once. While on standby, pressing this will start to play a song. While playing a song, this will pause the current song. |
Next Song | Press the middle button twice. |
Previous Song | Press the middle button thrice. |
B. Calls
Answer Call | Press the middle-button (depress gray area) once. When there is an incoming call, press once to answer. During a call, press to drop the call. |
Decline Call | Press the middle button twice. When there is an incoming call, press twice to decline. Wait for two beeps to confirm. |
Forward to Voice Mail | Press the middle button thrice. When there is an incoming call, press thrice to forward. |
C. Voice Control
Activate Voice Control | Press and hold the middle button. A beep will sound, then say the command at the mic. (don’t forget to relase the button. hehe) |
The above would probably work with the 3G or 3GS as well. So there you have it, another proof that controls need not have a ton of buttons to be feature-rich and usable, just plain instructions would do.
